Where the answer lies

Did you know that research estimates we have between 60,000 and 80,000 thoughts a day? That’s an astonishing number—think about it. What are you doing with all those thoughts? Are they simply fleeting, or are you intentionally using them to build something meaningful for your future?

When it comes to planning for retirement, it’s not about the quantity of thoughts we have, but the “quality”. It’s the depth of our thinking and how we channel those thoughts into positive actions that truly shape the next stage of our lives. The possibilities are endless, but without action, even the best ideas remain just that—ideas.

One of the steps I took while still working was “living my retirement in practice” during my days off. I created a routine that aligned with my vision for retirement, starting the night before. I would plan my day with intention—wake up, do my morning devotion, get dressed, and stand in front of the mirror to read my affirmations aloud, really letting those words sink in. (I’ll share my affirmations with you another day!)

I would set up my tasks as if I were meeting with real clients, even though they were imaginary at the time. I wasn’t just pretending; I was “drafting real resources” that I knew my future clients would need. Throughout the day, I followed a structured routine, taking breaks as I would in my future calendar, and meeting friends for meals or heading to the pool for aqua aerobics.

This practice wasn’t just play-acting. It was “bringing my future reality to life”, using my thoughts and actions in the present to create the retirement life I envisioned.

Now, it’s your turn. Start living your retirement now, in your mind and in your actions. Don’t let those 60,000 thoughts go to waste. Every thought can be a stepping stone toward the life you want. Your future starts with how you think today.
