At the start of this year, I made a decision to expand my influence by empowering a few good women. For me, this was part of my purposeful journey—a way to give back and help others step into their next chapter. It wasn’t just about talk; it was about action. This mission meant daily messages, sharing resources, and supporting each other in our growth. It required dedication, commitment, and above all, consistency. The foundation of it all? Gratitude. An attitude of gratitude, every single day, that fuels our dreams and keeps us moving forward.
Then, one day, I received some shocking news. The kind that could’ve made me want to give up, shut down, or just take a step back. But I couldn’t. I had messages to send, speeches to deliver, people counting on me. I had to hold myself together and keep going. It reminded me of a young woman who once held an ambassadorial role for a renowned charity after winning a major pageant. It was a huge responsibility, as you can imagine.
On one occasion, she was scheduled to speak at a leadership empowerment forum for younger girls. She arrived late—almost at the very end of the event. But she gave a powerful, motivating speech that resonated deeply with those girls. Later, she pulled me aside to apologize for her lateness. Her reason? Her family had lost their home five days earlier. She had been living out of a suitcase, sleeping on friends’ sofas and in shelters, unsure where she would lay her head each night as they searched for a new place amidst a housing crisis. That same day, she had gone to work and attended an audition before showing up at the event.
Her message to the girls took on a whole new meaning for me when she said, “If you’re asked to do something and it feels right, say yes, even if you don’t know how to do it yet. You’ll learn along the way, but saying yes opens doors you never knew were there.”
What she faced, and what I faced that day, are called stumbling blocks. We all have them. What’s standing in your way today? Is it family? Friends? Work? Finances? Procrastination? Rejection? Stumbling blocks can be external, like situations outside of your control, or internal, like doubt or fear.
Whatever it may be, know this: it won’t last forever, and it will pass. You’re capable of handling it. Just like that young woman, and just like I did, you can overcome it and keep moving forward. Remember, you’re in the driver’s seat of your life, and “you hold the key” to where you’re going next.
So, identify that stumbling block. Scale it like the pro you are, and keep pushing forward. Your next level is waiting for you.
